Mechanical Engineering Laboratory

In the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, students conduct experiments related to dynamic, control, strength of materials, manufacturing processes, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. In these experiments, they understand the basic principles of measurement and use modern experimental techniques. Some experimental setups in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory are listed below.
 



Micrography and hardness test rigs consist of a metal microscope and universal hardness tester. The polycrystalline structure of a pre-prepared metallic sample is examined using the metal microscope and the hardness levels of various metal samples are measured using the hardness tester.
 
      



Heat transfer test rigs consist of temperature measurement and calibration unit and heat transfer equipment. Students conduct temperature measurements using temperature measurement devices such as resistance thermometers and calibrate temperature sensors. Students measure the heat conduction behavior of the various materials using the heat transfer unit. 

    
    
 

Fluid mechanics test rigs consist of pump, manometers and hydraulic unit consisting of a Venturi tube and centrifugal fan, pitot tube and pipe flow equipment. Students perform pressure measurements using manometers and flow and velocity measurements using the hydraulic unit. They determine centrifugal fan characteristics and pressure losses using the centrifugal fan and pipe flow assembly.
 
    
   


Machine dynamics, vibration test and acoustic measurement setups consist of vibration, balancing, rotational speed test rigs and sound level meters. The experiments include free and forced vibration, dynamic vibration absorber, static and dynamic balancing, rotational speed measurements and sound measurements.
 
    
 


The strength of materials test rigs consist of an electro-mechanical and computer-controlled tensile test setup, a strain measuring system and beam apparatus. Tensile tests of various samples and strain measurements of bars subjected to tensile, bending and torsion under different loads are performed. The deflection of structures under varios loads and reaction forces  are measured using the beam apparatus setup.
 
    



Manufacturing techniques test rigs consist of some 3D printers and CNC machines. Students learn the manufacturing techniques of various machine parts using 3D printers and CNC machine.
