Mehmet Fevzi Ünal
Dean, Vice President

Employed by the Istanbul Technical University, Department of Aeronautics as an Assistant Professor from 1985 to 1987, Associate Professor between 1987-1993, and Professor after 1993.  Worked as an advisor for TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) Marmara Research Center from 1986 to 1988.  With a scholarship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science conducted research on 3-D Simulation of Separated Flows as a visiting professor at Yokohama National University, Japan from 1995 to 1996. Performed research projects on Force Prediction by DPIV as a Fulbright Professor at Lehigh University, USA, from 1996 to 1997. He has been acting as a reviewer for several international journals, and as consultant for various industrial projects. He served as the Head of Department of Aeronautics for six years from 1994 to 2002, as the Dean of the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics from 2004 to 2010 and as the Vice Rector in charge of research from 2010 to 2012. He currently serves as a Vice Rector and Dean of Engineering Faculty of MEF University.

Research Interests: Experimental/Computational Fluid Mechanics/Aerodynamics, Flapping Foil Aerodynamics, Flow Induced Vibrations.

Can Fuad Delale

Prof. Can Fuad Delale is currently the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at MEF University. He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977 from Istanbul Technical University, his M.Sc. degree in Physics in 1979 from Lehigh University (USA) and his Ph.D. degree in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics in 1983 from Brown University (USA). He has been a faculty member in various universities in Turkey including Boğaziçi, Bilkent, İstanbul, Işık and Istanbul Technical Universities and a Research Scientist at Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Foundation (TÜBİTAK) and at various universities and research institutes abroad including Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Max Planck Institute für Strömunsforschung, University of Cambridge, Eindhoven University of Technology and California Institute of Technology. He is a member of a number of scientific societies including European Mechanics Society and The Science Academy, holder of a number of prizes including TÜBİTAK Junior Scientist Prize and Sedat Simavi Science Prize, and holder of a number of fellowships and awards including Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and Burgers’ Center Research Professor Award.  He was the Co-Chairman (with D.G.Crighton)  of EUROMECH Colloqium 376 on Waves in Two-Phase Flows, Istanbul in 1998 and Co-Chairman (with A.Acrivos) of IUTAM Symposium on Recent Advances in Multiphase Flows: Numerical and Experimental, Istanbul in 2007. His reasearch interests include kinetic theory of gases, gas/liquid transitions, gas dynamics with homogeneous condensation, cavitation and bubble dynamics. He is the author of many scientific publications and Editor of the book Bubble Dynamics and Shock Waves.

Dante J. Dorantes-González

Dr. Dante Dorantes-González has held administrative positions as chair of the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, and head of the Innovation Center at the Monterrey Institute of Technology, Mexico. In 2008 he joined the School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering at Tianjin University, China. In July 2014, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MEF University. He has led several international research projects, is author of several textbooks, patents, and more than 60 refereed papers. He has been the chairman of several international conferences, and is a member of the editorial board in several scientific journals.

Research Interests: Non-Destructive Testing and Characterization, Laser Ultrasound, Surface Acoustic Waves-Based Laser Technology, Interferometry Design, Piezoelectric Technology, Mechatronics Design, Manufacturing Process Planning,  Scheduling and Automation.

Ali Çınar
Associate Professor

Dr. Ali Çınar worked 7 years in Istanbul Technical University as an associate professor, and then he moved to industry in 1991 for 23 years. He worked mainly on computer aided engineering, 7 years in Japan and 16 years in the automotive industry in Ford Otosan, including 1.5 years in Ford Motor Company in USA. He was the technical leader of the vehicle durability, and he actively worked on all commercial vehicle and heavy truck projects developed in the Ford Otosan since 1998. He returned back to academic life in MEF University in 2014. He is happy to share his industrial experience and engineering skills in structural mechanics, computer aided engineering and vehicle attributes with his students in the mechanical engineering department.

Research Interests: Fracture Mechanics, Elasto-Plasticity, Thermo Elasticity, Finite Element Applications, Fatigue and Vehicle Durability.

Hasan Körük
Associate Professor

Dr. Hasan Körük conducted research on energy efficieny in the R&D Department of Arçelik A.Ş. before starting his graduate studies. He worked as a research assistant in Istanbul Technical University during his graduate studies and he conducted research on acoustic and modal behaviours of structures in the Acoustics and Dynamics Laboratory, The Ohio State University, USA during his Ph.D. study between July 2012 and January 2013. He worked as a senior researcher in EDA - Energy Dynamics Acoustics Limitet (Arı Teknokent) where he conducted research on acoustics and vibrations of structures from October 2013 until February 2014 and he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, MEF University on March 2014. He conducted research on ultrasound in the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London, UK between November 2014 and March 2016. He resumed working in MEF University on March 2016 and was appointed as an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, MEF University on September 2017. As a visiting researcher, he conducted research on ultrasound in the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London, UK between July 2018 and September 2018.

Research Interests: Acoustics and Noise, Mechanical Vibrations, Ultrasound.

Seyed Ehsan Layegh Khavidaki
Assistant Professor

Dr. S. Ehsan Layegh K. received scholarship from Koç University in 2010 to conduct his Ph.D. in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Manufacturing and Research Center (MARC) Laboratory. He also spent his postdoctoral fellow in the same lab where he focused on different research topics such as metal cutting, dynamic simulation of machining processes, additive manufacturing, automation and mechatronics. He worked as an instructor at the Koç University in 2016 giving manufacturing processes lecturers. He worked in the industry between 2006 and 2008 leading different projects on die and mold manufacturing, prototyping and machining. At the same time, he was a part time instructor at different universities in Iran. Dr. Layegh joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MEF University as an assistant professor in 2017. His current research interests include Geometric, static and dynamic simulation of machining processes, FEM analysis, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing and tool design.

Research Interests: Metal Cutting, Tool design, Additive Manufacturing, CAD/CAM/CAE, Virtual Simulation of Machining Processes.

Cengiz Özdemir
Graduate Student

Cengiz Özdemir graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Middle East Technical University-METU in 2011. He is currently M.Sc. student in the Aerospace Engineering Department at METU. His main interests are hypersonic flow, boundary layer stability, aerodynamics and CFD. He was an Erasmus student at TU Delft in 2015 and conducted hypersonic boundary layer experiments. He is research assistant since 2014 at MEF University..
